For the past several years OEC           employees have selected a charitable or service organization to raise money for.  Money has been donated to the MRI project, Oconto Area Humane Society and Kingdom Come.  The organization that employees have decided will be the recipient of this year’s fundraising efforts is the Friends of the Oconto Falls Firefighters.
The Friends of the Firefighters began when the Oconto Falls Fire Department wanted to purchase a Technical Imaging Camera.  A group of citizens got together and quickly raised enough money to purchase the camera.  Now the fire department would like some additional equipment that will aid in water rescue and recovery.  With more people using the Oconto River and other nearby waterways, it is becoming increasingly important to have equipment that will aid water rescue.
Some of the items that will help the fire department include a boat and motor, sonar scanner, generators, life jackets, wet suits and long boards.  With money already raised, the boat has been purchased and the motor was donated by Evinrude. 
Oconto Electric employees will be doing several things throughout the summer to raise money.  The first project underway is a raffle.  Tickets can be purchased from employees and at our retail locations, RadioShack in Oconto Falls and OECellular in Cecil.  They will be $1 each or 6 for $5. First prize will be $500 cash, second prize is a handmade crocheted afghan, third and fourth prizes are Miller beer mirrors and fifith prize is a Vintage Collectible Firefighter Stamp. Tickets will be available at our Member Appreciation Day on August 4th.
Please help the employees support the Oconto Falls Fire Department, it may be your family or friend that needs to be rescued one day.
