OEC Announces Scholarship RecipientsEach year Oconto Electric Cooperative gives out five, $500 scholarships to high school seniors whose parents are members of OEC. Scholarship money comes from capital credits that have been unclaimed for at least three years. Applicants are judged on grade point average and SAT/ACT scores, activities, awards, accomplishments, a one-page essay on life and career goals, and a letter of recommendation from a third party.
The 2006 recipients are:
KATHERINE POCKAT – Katherine's parents are Don and Becky Pockat. She recently graduated from Gillett High School and plans to attend UW-Marinette where she will begin working toward a bachelor's degree in math or science education. Throughout her high school career some of the activities Katie has been active in include sports, band, choir, National Honor Society and FFA.

ANGELA VIRTUES – Angela's parents are Greg and Patti Virtues and she graduated from Oconto Falls High School this spring. For her post-high school education she plans on attending St. Norbert College in DePere. Some of the activities that Angela has been involved in include Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, Spanish Club and she has been a class officer for three years.

ANGIE HECKL - The daughter of William and Julia Heckl, she recently graduated from Suring High School . Angie plans to attend Marian College where she will major in the study of Radiologic Technology. While in high school, a few of the activities Angie has been active in include sports, student council, the Hi-Q team, choir and Students Against Drunk Driving.

JENNIFER WOS - The daughter of Roman and Mary Lou Wos, Jennifer recently graduated from Lena High School . She plans to attend UW – Milwaukee and enter the field of sports medicine. A few of the activities Jennifer has been involved in include FFA, Science Club, band, sports and she has been a class officer.

ANN PETERS - Ann's parents are William and Audrey Peters. She graduated from Oconto High School and plans to attend UW-LaCrosse this fall. While attending college Ann wants to pursue two Bachelor degrees – one in Art and one in Theater. A few of Ann's high school activities include Forensics, student council, National Honor Society and drama club. |
