Oconto Electric Cooperative's Air Conditioning Load Management Program

Oconto Electric has a program to control the air conditioning load on our system. It is important to be able to control this type of load as it increases the cost of power for every member of OEC. Click here to find out more about load management.

Being part of the air conditioning load management program means that you will allow Oconto Electric to control – or shut off – your central air conditioner during times of high demand. High demand usually occurs between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. That does not mean your AC will off during all of those hours. We will only control when OEC’s system is reaching a demand peak. For example, if on the first day of July the temperature is 95 degrees with high humidity, we will control your air conditioner. Now let’s say during the rest of July the temperature doesn’t get above 85 degrees; chances are good that we would not control your air conditioner for the rest of that month.

When we have to control air conditioners, we will cycle them off and back on at intervals of about 20-30 minutes. So, if we are controlling, the AC will be off for about 20-30 minutes, then back on for 20-30 minutes, then

back off for 20-30 minutes and so on until the demand peak has passed. Under normal circumstances you should not experience a huge temperature change in your home.

You will receive a $25 credit on your electric bill as a sign up bonus and you will receive an $8 credit each month on the bill for the June, July, August and September consumption.
