OEC Scholarship Program Oconto Electric Cooperative offers ten $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school students. Students are invited to apply for scholarships beginning January 1st of their senior year in high school until the application deadline. Eligibility OEC’s scholarship program is open to any high school senior whose parent or guardian is a member of Oconto Electric. The billing account for the parent/guardian must be a residential account (which means it must be their primary residence.) Student must be attending an accredited college or technical school. How To Apply Beginning January 1st each year, a scholarship application for that year will be available from local high school guidance counselors, from Oconto Electric’s office or you can download the application by clicking here. Complete the application and return to Oconto Electric along with the following information: Copy of high school transcripts (with current grade point average) SAT/ACT test scores Summary of school, group, club, community and employment activities, awards and accomplishments. One-page essay on future school, life and career goals One third-party recommendation (letter of reference) Photograph (for publicity purposes) The deadline for the current year’s scholarship will be listed on the application. Recipient Selection A scholarship committee made up of 7 cooperative members, none of whom are OEC employees, meets to go over the applications and select the five recipients. Recipients and non-recipients are notified by mail as soon as the selection is made. Making the Award All recipients are asked to attend Oconto Electric Cooperative’s Annual Meeting so they can be presented with a certificate in front of the general membership. An OEC representative will also attend the recipient’s graduation or awards ceremony to present a certificate and recognize the student in front of his or her peers. The recipient or the school must contact OEC to schedule. How to Receive the Scholarship Scholarship money is paid directly to the student at the beginning of the his or her second semester of post-secondary education. The student must send a copy of a paid invoice for the second semester tuition to the address listed below. A check for $1,000 will be mailed to the address on the scholarship application unless a different address is specified.
